The Kriegswehr (German for "War Defence") is the unified armed forces of Neubayern-Novodonetsk and their civil administration and procurement authorities. The States of Neubayern and Lordships of Novodonetsk are not allowed to maintain armed forces of their own, since the Constitution states that matters of defence fall into the sole responsibility of the Royal Government.

The Kriegswehr is divided into a military part (armed forces or Streitkräfte) and a civil part with the armed forces administration (Wehrverwaltung). The military part of the federal defense force consists of the Kriegsheer (Army), Kriegsmarine (Navy), Luftwaffe (Air Force), Streitkräftebasis (Joint Support Service), and the Zentraler Sanitätsdienst (Joint Medical Service) branches.

As of 31 July 1023, the Kriegswehr has a strength of roughly 2,375,280 active troops, making it one of the largest military forces in the world. In addition the Kriegswehr has approximately 1,729,046 reserve personnel. With Neubayero-Donetskian military expenditures estimated at K 679.14 billion, the Kriegswehr is the best-funded military in the world.

History[]

On 16 April 871, the Federal Executive Council passed an order to create an Imperial military. Thus, the War Council (Kriegstag) was formed to oversee the newly formed Neubayer army and navy. An air force was created in 900. The Kriegstag served as an advisory body to the Council (and still performs this duty for Reichsparlament). The first President of the Kriegstag was Gerhard Bauer-Schmidt.

The Kriegsheer (lit. War Army) is the land force of the Kriegswehr. It is the largest and oldest division of the Imperial Armed Forces, with around 1,200,000 soldiers in active service. The Kriegsheer has many military bases in operation around the world; some are run in co-operation with the militaries of the Union's allies.
